What Motivates You?

What is motivation? Motivation is the act or process of giving someone a reason for doing something. I wanted to take a look inside people's brains to see what gets them up each day. I wanted to know what it was that pushed them to keep going forward and not slack off. Granted everyone has their days, but I really wanted to know what it was that made students get up and go to class and give it their all. I decided to ask a couple of students what was it that motivated them. People have different reasons to be motivated, and I wanted to understand why. There are a lot of young adults in today's society who don't have the motivation or the inspiration like they should to do their best or to keep going forward. I would like for them to see that there are other things to do your best for, even if it is doing it for you, your family or for a higher power you believe in.

An anonymous person wrote: "True motivation comes from within. No one can hand it to you, but no one can take it away, either." I believe that this is true. You can have something that motivates you, but you have to get up and go do it is what ever it is that you need to do for whatever or whoever motivates you. You will always have that motivation regardless because it is in you but it is up to you to know your full potential and bring it out.

http://www.motivation.com/ is a website that helps with motivation by posting photos and quotes from people to help to be inspired and also get motivated to do whatever it is that they need to do. They also have inspiring quotes from other celebrities and tips to not only keep you motivated but help you stay motivated.

http://richardstep.com/self-motivation-quiz-test/ is also another great website to help with motivation in your career and life. The website allows you to take a personality quiz to see what areas you need help and motivation in the most and help you gain direction in your life.

Winthrop Student, Shardea Johnson, sophomore answered the question "What motivates you?" She answered: My family motivates me, I just want to make them proud, and make them feel like they are getting what they payed for, I just want to make them proud.... and have them brag about me (laughs)"  Much like other Winthrop students parents, they want their kids to succeed in school and become proud of them. Ayn Rand once said: "A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others." which is is the best motivation there is!
A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.

When asking random students what motivated them the most these are the answer that occurred the most. "myself" and "God" were the most given responses.

Check out the video of me asking students what motivates the behind the scenes bloopers of them answering the question HERE!

Winthrop University's Department of Human Nutrition

The focus is on dietitians, so the program is designed to make students become registered dietitian. It's a science based program which generally turns people away from the field sometimes. The students who decide to stay in the program and get a degree, they apply to a internship. The process is very competitive and everyone does not quickly get in to the internship but when they do they stay for about an academic school year and they take the registered dietitians exam to become "RDs" as they call themselves.  These here are some of the many tools that the students use to master their field and do what it takes to pass their exams to become an official dietitian.

Life In ONE Word. VoxPop

My question is "If you could sum up life in ONE word what would it be?" I chose this question because I thought this would be a really interesting question to ask people on the spot and I wanted to get people's reaction. What surprised me the most about this is that people answered the question based on how they felt in that moment so they really didn't answer their entire life in a question, which I wish they had. What people may find interesting is that the question is really difficult to ask on the spot so it took everyone a few tries before they could really answer the question.

Winthrop Student, Kayla M. tells us that she really was unsure about life in a word but she felt as though it was "complicated".  Which is understandable for some people.

If you could sum up life in one word, what would that word be? Find out from Winthrop students here: HERE !

Winthrop's Residence Halls

The process of this project was easy. I enjoyed walking around Winthrops beautiful campus to take wonderful photos of the residence halls and to be able to capture their beautiful structure, the uncut, unedited footage was very fun. The photos are great, but to see it up close and personal is really amazing. What surprised me about this landmark is that, each halls name came from someone who did something great and contributed a great part of Winthrop. It's so humbling to see that. People will find it interesting that these halls are named after people, they originally housed veterans, fraternities, sororities, they are apart of history and that they've been around for quite some time. And you can check it out Here!

Pumps And Dunks.

A girl is on the court, and I don't men court side. Hip hop phenomenon Nicki Minaj and superstar basketball player Kobe Bryant to effortlessly slay the cover of ESPN the Magazine "Music Issue". Nicki may not be 6"6" but give her a some Galliano heels and a speaker, then she'll measure up. The duo teamed up for this months Music issue to show the world that they may have two different skills but their still  aiming for the same goal, which is to be the best.

Nicki, is currently gearing up to premier her move 'The Other Woman' with the beautiful actress Cameron Diaz. She plays the feisty assistant to Diaz in the movie, which is planned to be released in movie theaters April 25th . Also, the rapper is currently putting together her third album which will be released later this year. Minaj says is nothing like she's ever done before. the hip hop legend once again broke record by being the FIRST female rapper to grace the cover of the magazine.

Kobe Bryant, isn't teaming up with the pop star to make an album, which would be awesome but the basketball star is still nursing his injuries back to health so that he can go back to dominating the basketball court.

College student, ashley M. says:
"I'm actually happy to see a girly-girl , on the front cover. It makes me want  to go out and buy it. I like the fact that they took a chance and not only put a female on the cover  but a female MC, that 's so awesome. She's so cute and her heels are to die for. She's dominating every avenue. Go Nicki!"

Well that's one large step for basketball and one fierce step for females.
